Bruxisim is the clenching or grinding of teeth. This typically happens while a person is sleeping or unknowingly placing tension on their jaw.
Symptoms are a sore, tired jaw, sensitive teeth, headaches, earaches, pain in your jaw joints, or difficulty opening and closing your mouth.
Bruxism can cause dental problems because of the added force on your teeth. Broken teeth, loss of enamel near the gumline, flattened or work-down teeth, or damage to the jawbone are all examples of the problems that can be caused by bruxism.
Thankfully, there is an effective treatment to stop any further damage to your teeth. We recommend using a nightguard, which is a device that fits over your top or bottom teeth and absorbs the force caused by grinding. Although you can buy them over-the-counter, we recommend coming into our office to take impressions for a custom-fit nightguard, which offers the most effective and comfortable protection.
