Do you ever wince when taking a sip of cold water or while taking a bite into a sweet candy? If this happens to you, you are experiencing tooth sensitivity. This is one of the most common problems in dentistry.

There are many possible causes for sensitive teeth. One of the major culprits are from stress on the teeth due to clenching or grinding. If your teeth do not fit together properly, or your “bite” is off, this can cause sensitivity, as well. Other reasons for sensitivity include loss of the enamel from drinking acidic sodas and sports drinks, brushing too hard, using an abrasive toothpaste for whitening or tartar control, or through routine dental procedures, like bleaching or restorations.

Sensitivity can be treated by using a desensitizing toothpaste, adjusting your bite, or wearing a mouthguard. Tooth sensitivity can be a painful problem, and by contacting our office for an appointment, we can help diagnose the reason for your sensitivity and recommend treatment that is right for you!
